Fredericksburg Area Museum
A Legacy of Preservation & History in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Housed in historic Town Hall/Market House (c. 1816), FAM’s mission—to collect, research, interpret, teach and preserve the history of the region—is the foundation of the Museum’s programs and events, exhibitions, educational initiatives, and collecting activities that touch the lives of all citizens and help them make meaningful and personal connections to history.
FAM’s collection of objects span more than ten thousand years of history! Ranging from Native American artifacts to Black Lives Matter posters, the objects support the vast and rich stories of our community and offer insight into the lives of those that have paddled our river, walked our streets, worked our fields, run our businesses and government, attended our schools and churches, and participate in national movements.
Located in downtown Fredericksburg, VA, the FAM is a cultural and educational hub in a thriving, historic city. Fredericksburg’s core, containing a 40-block historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is surrounded by Civil War battlefields, great architecture, and historic vistas.
With a diverse collection of modern shops and celebrated restaurants, the FAM sits in the center of a history buff’s tourist destination, perfect for anyone who wants to explore America’s historic foundation and growth.
